It also looks like the original stem recovered and is shooting out a new leaf Did you get it from this years plant group Hawaii restock? The one I bought from eBay last year never really took off, I don’t think being stuck in the mail for a week did it any favors |

It's doing okay but nothing to brag about. The leaves shown above died and there are two new stalks, none with variegation.
The leaves are cupped. So are the leaves in photos from elsewhere. As I remember, the first plant that I saw circa 1960 at Garfield Park Conservatory (Chicago) had flattened leaves. Maybe, it was a slightly different heliconia than the one sold today. The chief horticulturist said that they bought it as heliconia 'Edwardus Rex' from Julius Roehrs in New Jersey. Most of my other heliconias look terrible because of leaf spots which I suspect were caused by edema but none died. |
