I don't know if anyone is familiar with Noni - here they grow and process a lot of the fruit as a health restorative. The tree itself is quite attractive, but the ripe fruit is disgusting, grey and swollen like something that has been dead a while, and smells bad too! I would have to be near death's door before I could drink Noni juice - but they sell a lot of the products. Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture to post. Do any members use Noni jiuce and how do they find it? Curious minds need to know.

Cassie, I have a friend where I work that was selling Noni juice at $40.00-$60.00 a bottle, claims are that helps everything that could possibly ail a human being, personally, I tasted it and thought, even on my death bed I wouldn't drink that stuff, excuse me for my discription, but to me it Tasted like vomit smells, in that back of your sinus after the fact, SORRY for the discription, but thats the only way I can put it. Several others that I work with think it's not that bad. Just a matter of opinion. To me though, Noni is a NoNo here!

The health benefits are disputed and largely anecdotal and unverified. Traditionally, its the leaves that were used as a pumice to treat skin problems (cuts, rashs, burns etc...). It wasn't until modern times the fruit has been used. I don't have any personal experience with it as a medicine, but I agree that it really is a terrible smelling and tasting fruit...probably one of the reasons the Polynesians didn't want anything to do with it!

Nasty, wet-cat-and-cheese stuff. You can juice it yourself, but it's so much work for such a gack-tastic payoff that why you'd bother is beyond me.

The leaves are great against bug bites, though.

Carol,When we came over to the Dom Rep last year we used to sit under those trees to keep out of the sun! They were ugly looking fruits and did smell.

They are also known as Stink Apples.They are also used for Kidney Cancer,Arthritis and Ulcers apparently.

Its true some people love it. Two of my banana customers have "noni" as part of their email addresses, so I guess its pretty serious with them.

Besides, if you ever try fresh Noni juice, you'll agree. It smells like wet cats and old gorgonzola. Gacktackular, even.

It is the yukkiest thing I have found - no wonder it's nickname is vomit fruit. Mark - some people swear by their wonderful properties for every known disease. Personally I'm with Lorax, Gabe and Bill!!!!

Wouldn't you just love to be able to say that to someone?

And yes, someone sold me a bottle of noni juice, blended with grape juice. I was to drink a shot of it each day, which I did begrudgingly, but did not reorder. That stuff was foul and had quite a nasty aftertaste. No wonder it's healthy though, nothing would want to infect you, be near you or certainly live inside of you.

I've read that the needle palm, Rhapidophyllum hystrix, has fruit that also smells like vomit. As a nurse I'm sorta used to that, but plan on staying away from my needle palm if I'm ever lucky enough to have it fruit. Makes you wonder what animal the plant is trying to entice?
