ha ha on the "palm" sunday. i should be going to church....but im going to be playing in my yard, taking care of my piece of earth. i have a rosebush to plant, and if i can wade through the mud( we have had a lot of rain the last 2 days) will be cleaning out another bed to make room for my ornamentals and some more red hot pokers. im trying to be a good steward of the earth. these are a few sayings from the native americian 10 commandments: the earth is our mother care for her. all life is scared treat all beings with respect. take from the earth what is needed and nothing more.... i think of these things when i work in my yard and in my life.

"church" is my garden: Machu Picchu Nuevo. References to any particular religion should be posted on some other site. Thanks.

Just got back from church an hour ago. Church was packed, too. Can't wait to see what it'll be like next week.

Just to keep this sort of on topic, they ran out of palm leaves to hand out. In most of the Seattle area, they use coconut palm leaves. I was surprised that they use Royal Palm leaves in Concord, CA and Hattiesburg, MS.

Thats for sure about it being packed next week and my church used to hand out palm leaves but it was too expencive they still have leaves around the church. I was wondering if you could take a palm leaf like that and use some rooting hormone would it grow or would it be to old? I think we get they fronds from a florist.

Do you mean that y'all just pick palm leaves from the palm trees around your church, or something? That would be handy.

No, taking a leaf and dipping in rooting hormone will not produce a plant. Even in tissue culture, they use the palm embryo for culturing. And it will take years for you to be able to get enough leaves for a congregation. I would just get some the Pygmy Date Palm (Phoenix roebelenii) from KMart, Walmart($13 for 3-gallon pot), or Home Depot, and pick the more mature leaves, and save the rest for next year.
