Poster: William LeGro (see this users gallery) These were our apple banana trees before we had to destroy them because of bunchy top virus. It killed me - the sorrow and the labor. We bagged them to keep the birds and rats away. These trees were just prolific. The plan is to grow them here in Los Angeles. On Kaua`i we planted a different variety, still tiny.

Those are some pretty big plants! Hawaiian Apple does great in L.A., and you don't have to worry about any serious banana diseases here.

Yeah, they were big. Now that I look at them from far away, I think they must have been the regular apple (Brazilian) bananas, not the dwarf variety. They were incredibly heavy to haul to the dump when I had to chop them down after bearing fruit. Hmmm...in L.A. we have only one green waste container, and one tree would fill up several - the trunks are so heavy and the city has a weight limit. And I'm going to have to haul the spent plants up to the street from three stories down our hill. I already have to do this with agave, which slices me to shreds. I don't know how long I can keep this up. I can see the headline now: Silver Lake man murdered: crushed by banana and stabbed by agave
