Poster: waggoner41 (see this users gallery) The fruit ripens, normally, from top to bottom over a week or so. As the outes scales loosen and start to fall that portion can be eaten. The fruit contains oxalic acid so eating the fruit sooner will cause anything from a tingling sensation of the mouth and lips to a burning sensation. Some who have a particular sensitivity to oxalic acid can have these sensations spread throughout the entire body. Your first taste should be taken with care.
