I bought this banana plant 2 years ago. It was sold me as a Musa Basjoo. It does not however have any of the characteristics of my other musa basjoos. As you can see it is rather thin with long, elegant fronds. This banana is nowhere near as cold hardy as my musa basjoos. It has not produced one pup in 2 years and has certainly not flowered. All of my other musa basjoos have produced many pups in that same time-frame and they all started smaller than this one was when I bought it. The color on this plant is also much yellower than my musa basjoos and they leafs are much more frail on this one than my musa basjoos. What do you guys think? Is that some different sub cultivator of Musa Basjoo, or is it another type of banana? |

The leaves are very upright like Thai black, maybe Musa Balbisiana the plain green form? My Thai black is unlike my other bananas and is only just now producing pups that were still under ground going on its third year, I only discovered them while digging for storage.

Thanks for the reply! I just looked at some photos of the green M. Balbisiana and they do look a lot like my plant. It certainly has the shape of a Thai Black as well. I just dont see any of the darker color on it yet.
