orinoco fruit description

Poster: ron_mcb (see this users gallery) OK let me say this about Orinoco fruit.. dont believe too much of anything you read about orinoco in all of the stock photo descriptions.. up untill the time i put it in my mouth i was expecting it to taste like a potato or something when they yellow orinoco taste really no different from the bananas i have bought in the market. the only difference was the size and shape,and they didnt peel the same. a little advice they can/will split if you leave it on the plant for too long (even if they havent turned yellow yet). i should have cut it once they swelled. a few green ones have split. i would say they were ready 2 1/2 months after the plant first flowered... in Georgia heat they will probably split after that. no mater where you live.. if they look like they are fat enough to burst then they probably will..next time i will start cutting a few fingers about two months after flowering. the splitting on my orinoco/bluggoe banana looks like stretch marks on a person... the fruit with stretch the peel untill it spits in several places...if you see this cut the fruit its overdue..again it dosent matter if its hasnt turned yellow yet. cut it and wait for it to turn yellow. i tried to eat the fruit while the peel first turned yellow..big mistake. unlike Cavendish types you probably wont like the taste if its not fully ripe.

Great advice Ron. I have an Orinoco but it didnt grow much this year. I'll know what to do now when it fruits. Thanks
