Zone:
USDA 9 a
Name:
Davey
Banana species and cultivars grown?:
1) 'Orinoco', a.k.a., "Burro Banana" or "Donkey Banana" , 2) a very commonly grown dwarf lavendar flowered ornamental which when it fruits, makes finger-length, banana flavoring-fragrant yellow fruit with a number of large seeds, and, 3) an unknown cv of a dessert banana, hasn't flowered/fruited yet. Bluish blush on underside of leaves. I'd like to find out more about other kinds of edible bananas we could try. New location----so far growing only 'Nam Wah' got from another list member. Did not bring the other bananas with us. More coastal but less humid, much more basic, sandy, and not very rich soil. Good for citrus. Will see how 'Nam Wah' does.
