Re: ID Help!
What do the fruit taste like? Just like Rajapuri? That's how Dwarf Brazilian taste.
Aside from the lack of retained bracts on the rachis, most of the traits match DB pretty closely, but I've never...

Re: Time to separate the pups for the Spring
How long have you been growing it?
I agree that regardless of how many pseudostems you have in a mat, the bigger ones will make bigger bunches. The trick is keeping big ones coming when you allow...

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
For me, it fruited at 14-16' of p-stem typically, with leaves way above that. That could have been OK, but it always needed to be propped to avoid collapsing, and I found it too tricky to fit props...

Re: Time to separate the pups for the Spring
If you just lop off their heads, they'll grow right back. You need to remove them to keep them from just shooting back up or sending new pups up from the base of the corm even if you've managed to...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
I'm glad this one does so well for you. I really like the taste. It is slow grower and not big producer for me, but I look forward to the fruit I get from it.
I wonder if anyone in California has...

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
Well done!
I really like the fruit of this variety, but I think it likes the climate in Florida a lot more than the climate of southern California! I've grown it for years and is very slow and not...

Re: Pisang Klotek
I don't have any photos handy, but I got PK from the original source, Momoese. It makes wonderful fruit, but I got rid of it because it is so darn tall. I think the shortest p-stem height mine...

Re: Musa Pisang Ceylon
This variety gets tall. I don't think I ever had them fruit as short as 12'. More typically 15-16' p-stem height.

Re: Water suckers
Keith, do you directly plant in the field any of the suckers you harvest right after removing them? Or do you pot them up and grow them out for a while before transplanting to the field?

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
Ironically, Goldfinger bananas (FHIA-01) are not finger size. They are larger, though their size varies with how they are cared for, which is true of any banana. Mysore are closer to finger size...

Re: Water suckers
With that many suckers, sword or water, yes, growth of mom is likely going to be slowed. Slowed growth will result from insufficient light (shading by the suckers when the get older), water, or...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
When it's a variety I've never harvested before, I always wait until I see at least one finger that is clearly turning yellow, and harvest just that finger -- often it is damaged an not indicative of...

Re: Musa "Rose"
Ditto what Jon said. Beautiful as an ornamental but makes too little of too little fruit to be worth growing for fruit.

Re: Tales of SH-3640's
Yes, thanks. The fires are several miles southeast of us. Last year's Thomas Fire came within about a mile of us. That was scary.
