Re: Sold as "ice cream": pink pseudostem, maroon leaf midribs, glaucous leaf undersid

Thanks Janelle, that's clearly the same plant. I assume it lost the pink color as it grew up?

Re: Sold as "ice cream": pink pseudostem, maroon leaf midribs, glaucous leaf undersid

Thanks for your reply. I know it's not blue java but all of the pictures I could find of namwah show a much less colorful plant than this one. I don't know which banana varieties have this pronounced...

Re: Plants for sale in San Diego

I am interested in a few of those! Rose, ice cream, possibly something else. Can I visit today (Friday) or tomorrow?

Re: Organic Blue Java pups for sale in San Diego!

I am interested! Local. Bare root is fine (bananas don't mind at all). Prefer a larger pup such as the one on the right if it's not expensive.

Sold as "ice cream": pink pseudostem, maroon leaf midribs, glaucous leaf undersides

These young plants are sold at a nearby nursery as "ice cream" but they're very colorful so I don't think that's what they are? Light pink pseudostems with very pronounced purple leaf midribs both...

Magnificent and very tall banana plant (fruiting) in LA

A few years ago I came across this very tall banana plant in front of the Formosa restaurant in Los Angeles. You can see it's fruiting. These are the only pictures I took of it. Does anyone have any...

Re: Notice Regarding Spam Posts

You're confusing moderators with the administrator. The moderators are doing what they can to delete the spam after it occurs but the only one that can actually prevent the spam from occurring at all...

Re: Notice Regarding Spam Posts

No hacking; just a bot spamming the forum. The admin can't be bothered to do anything about it.

Re: Notice Regarding Spam Posts

Someone with database access needs to delete all threads whose title contains that domain name.

Re: Notice Regarding Spam Posts

The solution is to prevent this problem, not try to delete the posts as they occur. They could occur constantly. I recommend using the reCaptcha bot for new account sign-ups at the very least, and...

Re: Notice Regarding Spam Posts

Blocking an IP range may not solve the problem and can block legitimate users. IPs do not identify people. Measures need to be added to block any and all spam bots.

Re: Notice Regarding Spam Posts

A membership fee sucks because that would severely reduce the number of new people joining. Often someone would want to make a quick account just to ask about bananas once, or identify one variety,...

Re: Notice Regarding Spam Posts

The posts are not the only problem; it's that there's no filter for fake accounts. This one IP is creating thousands of accounts and there's no check to prevent that. There's also no captcha.

Re: Experiences with Goldfinger from LaVerne Nursery?

Thanks for your feedback. Sounds like DB would suit me best.

Re: Experiences with Goldfinger from LaVerne Nursery?

I'm aware. That's fine, and pups' leaves are smaller. When the stems are tall enough to have full-length leaves it's not an issue at all. I had a young palm tree at this spot beforehand, and a Mysore...

Re: Experiences with Goldfinger from LaVerne Nursery?

It's in a small dirt area 3.5 feet per side, surrounded on three sides by a sidewalk, my driveway, and the alley my house is on. There'd be little room in the dirt to stick a propping device once it...

Re: Experiences with Goldfinger from LaVerne Nursery?

I wanted something that does not need propping (admittedly secondary to wind resistance) which is why I wasn't looking for Namwah. Do you think this one from LaVerne is the dwarf one or the...

Re: Experiences with Goldfinger from LaVerne Nursery?

I was considering DB and Jon's nice DB clump has done just fine, but he reports that it is really unproductive compared to his other bananas. One of his stems was producing fruit when I visited but...

Goldfinger from LaVerne Nursery

I posted these on the main forum but it's probably better to do it here. Some people said LaVerne's "Goldfinger" is really a Namwah but that's true of their "Ice Cream" and it seems odd to sell the...

Re: Experiences with Goldfinger from LaVerne Nursery?

Well that sucks. I read Goldfinger is more wind-resistant and less likely to need propping, both of which are very important to me. Here are photos of it, just in...

Experiences with Goldfinger from LaVerne Nursery?

I just bought a Goldfinger that had originated from LaVerne, but then I read about at least one person's plant producing only male flowers, or being slow and unproductive. Has anyone had success with...

Re: Banana Seeds really sprout

Edible bananas do not generally produce seeds, you know. So those would have to be either wild bananas or ornamentals.

Re: Just had my first taste of Mysore...

Can you post pictures of you whole DB clump? I browsed your gallery but don't recall pictures of the entire plant.

Re: Just had my first taste of Mysore...

Sorry to resurrect a fairly old thread but I thought Tall Brazilian was wind-resistant due to a thick stem and good root system. If one had a TB in a fairly unprotected spot and faced strong winds...

Re: Naranjilla (Solanum quitoense)

That's very impressive looking; makes me look forward to mine eventually fruiting. In your experience, at what times of the year does it produce ripe fruit?
