Re: Veinte Cohol
I noticed today that one of my three larger Veinte Cohol plants is flowering. Been too busy with farm work to pay much attention to them. This one flowered at about 5.5 feet high.
This variety is supposed to be fast to mature, but I can't imagine it being fast enough with this thing flowering this late in the year. Last edited by harveyc : 10-26-2011 at 09:26 PM. |

Re: Veinte Cohol
Maybe I'll build a little shelter over these so that I can give them some help to see if they are worth growing. I wonder if BigDog is still growing them. He fruited his in a greenhouse and they weren't very good but they were in a pot. With all the fuss given over ordering these I would have thought others would have fruited these by now.
All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth. Never mind, I've still got those so I'll take a ripe bunch of VC! |

Re: Veinte Cohol
This article
Banana Research | Georgia FACES | UGA dated December 19, 2013 shows that Greg Fonsah is still working with the VC. Maybe there is still hope for that banana but maybe more to 8b/9a. Are there any updates?

We'll see what happens after my VC spent last winter out unprotected. Not looking good now.

Re: Veinte Cohol
Mine spent the entire winter unprotected. No viable pseudostem from the harsh winter but new growth coming from the corm. I would suspect that with a little protection, like wrapping the pseudostem with a blanket, it would have flowered this year. So I think the corm is at least hardy to zone 9a.

Re: Veinte Cohol
Veinte Cohol is one of my favorites, eating some as I type. Only have about 4 hands left so I'll have to harvest another bunch later today.

I can't wait to see how mine does next year. Maybe it will give me some pups so I can share.
