Description
The most popular greenhouse banana, will bear bunches with over 100 bananas, each slightly shorter than the 'grocery store' varieties. It will grow to about 8 feet(10 feet outdoors in South Florida) and has a solid heavy trunk. Juvenile leaves will have some reddish-purple markings but later leaves will be all green. This Musa is a fast grower with great appeal to the mass market. It has a fair cold tolerance. It is also suited for indoors and is a good container specimen which is also decorative.

- Cold Hardiness - my dwarfen cavendish ( more hardy types, grand nain ) survived -3 C with little leaf edge damage and -5 C in dry ground with greater leaf damage however persisting cold is really trouble and wil cut the plant to the ground. Other 3 plants died at -5 and another has only stem damage, hardening off extends the frost resistence of the stem defenitely. It seems a unreliable plant for colder we climates. The normal cavandish types wil die if temperatures are around 8 C'. 3/01/08 i tried some super dwarfs and less hardy cultivars that defoliated at 3 C', i protected the stem with jute, burlap leaves and straw but it still died however the super dwarf are ideal for a heated enclosures if spayed with fungicide Lodewijkp, the Netherlands
