![]() Greetings from the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast. Thanks to a local extension farm run by Auburn University, there is some growing interest in our area to establish cold hardy bananas as a niche crop for local small farms, and I have caught the bug. Although we live in a mostly subtropical climate, there have been some freezing temps which clipped us over the past couple of years and did a number on the majority of the experimental "cold hardy" banana plants. So the jury is still out on determining which variety may work as a sustainable crop that could potentially support a market. I find the challenge fascinating and believe that the right variety is out there and may hinge on how that variety responds to some special growing techniques which compensate for a relatively brief winter dormancy period. At any rate, I look forward to sitting at the feet of some of you musa masters.

![]() A member named alemily in Foley made a post a day or so ago about moving and getting rid of his/her banana mat. Bunch of different types. Probably a great source if you're looking for banana stock and are nearby. Good luck!
