Banana Curious in Austin
Hi, everyone.
I was so pleased to find out about this group! I just got online to learn how to take care of the Dwarf Cavendish I bought. My main question at this point is about the possibility of planting mine in the ground. Austin is zone 8b. I thought I would build a portable greenhouse-type cover for the colder months here. Any thoughts or input? Mary Anne |

Welcome. I planted my DC's outside last year and I'm in zone 6. I dug them up and brought them inside to overwinter. I am anxious to plant them back out this year.

Greetings from a fellow (transplanted) Texan! Welcome the orgainization. You will definitely need to protect your DC during the winter. I live south of Houston and my DC's still get damaged by the cold-it's Zone 9 here. You'll probably have to provide extra water this summer given the lack of rain you've had out that way lately. We finally got a little last night but are still pretty dry here. |
