banananess
As a kid I grew hundreds of plants, consuming every discarded dixie cup and dish I could scavenge for pots, and lining every window sill with spider plants and other rooting things. Now I have a herd of bananas. Nice. I have rehabbed an old building in Cape Canaveral and am surrounding it with gardens. I have one strip of bananas in the ground, but most are in barrels. Yet to see if those will fruit, but I don't care. Two trees in ground fruiting now. Bought two more trees yesterday. Totally irrational. You understand.

Re: banananess
Check the image files size. It must be less than 2MB. It the upload state it was susseful but there is no picture in the gallery then the problem is the size of the image. |

Re: banananess
I've been watching my mystery tree fruiting. (I'm going to ID it with the protocols I got from this forum!) Here it is just starting...

Re: banananess
Some closeups. I think it is done with the female flowers, now on to the males. I will let it grow to full length so I can practice my ID skills. The wood support is my optimism that this will be tremendously heavy. Plus we're in hurricane season.
It's a rare overcast morning so I wasn't blinded while shooting photos today.

Re: banananess
Congratulations!
Word of caution about support placement: The ideal spot to place the support is between the first hand of bananas and where the peduncle exits the pstem so the bunch is supported directly without pressure on the actual pstem. If the support point is lower on the pstem sometimes the pstem can break at this point due to leverage and a heavy bunch. Sometimes. I have one large namwa that is leaning quite a bit which is supported at a high point on the pstem presently which is not ideal but after the flower finishes exiting and the hands emerge I will move the support to the peduncle. There are a few threads with discussion and photos of different types of support structures and placement. Again congratulations! |
