Default Building my Paradise at home

Hello,

New here from Northern California,

been lurking for a little while and decided
I might as well participate.

I am above all interested in the Blue Java.
I am not a huge banana person myself
(as far as eating them) but, my daughter and
husband LOVE bananas I swear they could live
on those things they love them so much .

I'm more interested in the botanical aspect of it,
I could fall in love growing just about anything and
plus I have never tried growing a tropical plant.

~

Hi, and welcome !

You'll really love going bananas...I mean GROWING Bananas, treat them right and they grow like crazy, they definitely give you action for your efforts, not to mention they are beautiful, have great fruit, and some of the most georgeous flowers in the plant world. It's hard to top a banana bloom for sheer beauty, and that's not even counting the Ornamentals...lol. They are addicting so you might as well go ahead and clear some space in the yard now. You can just compost the rest of your plants to feed to the Bananas....

Blue Java,

I'm likely within a couple of hours drive of you in Nor. Cal also.
I have a Blue Java (Musa "Ice Cream") in a 5 gallon bucket that's just hanging around. I also have a few others potted and lots of pups from many other varieties.
If you want some plants send me a PM and we can make a plan.
I'm moving so I would like to see some plants go to fellow growers in the area.
One word of caution, Blue Java doesn't do the best for me here in the valley and seems to sunburn easily. Try to pick a spot with afternoon shade if possible.

Jay

Welcome aboard!

Here is the link to read more about Ice Cream (Blue Java) in the wiki:

Best of luck with starting off your banana collection, Blue.

Jay, maybe you can update the wiki page with some of your experiences growing Ice Cream?

Hi there Jay!

I also live in Sacramento! Well, surrounding areas but I am still
in Sacramento county. I will be sure to pm you as I am
extremely interested!

And my back yard has some shaded areas for sure.

I know, I was looking at the photo galleries and I am totally
in awe by how gorgeous Banana "trees" are. And amazed that
I had never considered growing them before. The blooms
are incredible!

Thanks, I will check out that link. I am still not 100% on
what the deal is with winter temperatures and what you
are supposed to do.
