Hello
Hi. I've been lurking around Bananas.org for a little bit and decided to subscribe. I recently moved from Oahu, Hawaii to South Jersey within the past years. It's amazing the things I took for granted! Bananas grew like crazy everywhere in Hawaii and now it takes a lot more work to get these buggers to grow nicely. It'll be sad not seeing the flower and fruit but the ornamental (and sentimental) value is still worth the work!
I'm a member of the US Army (hence the move). Hopefully my next move will take me back to Hawaii! If not, I hope it's a location where I can haul my new plants in a pickup or trailer! I had to abandon everything this past year and start over. |

Re: Hello
Welcome to the camp! You'll find lots of great advice and knowledge rolling around in the minds of the inhabitants here.
I am getting ready to make a similar move from SoCal to Maryland, where I lived previously for 40 years. Will be bringing many of my tropicals back with me, including the bananas. I always grew cactus back east, but the tropicals are a different story. Good luck to us both! Last edited by Moonshiner : 06-16-2010 at 11:49 PM. Reason: forgot |

Re: Hello
Welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy it here. Don't give up on getting blooms just cause you live in a colder place. Sure, it's more work, but that's half the fun of it. Patty just got a bloom recently in Wisconsin, so you can surely achieve success if you put your mind to it. Best of luck!

Welcome Cheson 74
Welcome to the site. I did the same thing too, hanging around a bit like the interesting bunch that calls this home. Open and friendly, and very willing to offer all kinds of help and information, sometimes even when you ask for it! Enjoy your new home and new adventure.

Re: Hello
Welcome to the site! There's lots of tropicals you can grow in NJ but its definitely nothing like Hawaii! There are lots of people on this site from the tropics and from more temperate areas but everyone manages to grow some really nice tropicals!
Good luck!
