Re: Hello from the lava lounge tiki bar !!!
Thanks for all the kind words, this bar has been a real love/hate thing. I never realizied how hard it was going to be to build, I did this project on a real budget believe it or not and used all recycled materials. I really built the whole thing by myself other than having my wife help with a car type hydraulic jack to do the long end pieces so they looked somewhat level while I pilot drilled and lag bolted those pieces. It was harder to make this look like its been here for 100 years than you think, making things unlevel is not my thing, at least I found that out. I will add more photos of the framing, its all old utility poles that are bolted together with 5/8 bolts up to 24 inches long, so no nails were used, at least at this point I can have a mojito or mai ti and think what my next move is and ENJOY the process. Thanks again and you guys are correct some plant help will make it an awesome space, being here in michigan will be challenging but it will be done. Thanks again.

Love the rusty corregated metal on the front of the bar. Then again, I own a pretty sexy rusty car LOL...so yeah, a fan of rust.

Re: Hello from the lava lounge tiki bar !!!
Cool bar! Some tropical plants will really set it off. I recommend defiently some bananas, maybe some areca palms, and maybe some pineapples.
I've built 5 bars since leaving college and one used all reclaimed wood and corrugated metal like yours. The current "Bradford's Backyard Tiki Bar" has influences from the south pacific, the carribbean, florida cracker joints and lowcountry fish camps. Cheers!

Re: Hello from the lava lounge tiki bar !!!
I will try to get some good up dated photos. I presently have praying hands bananas, various Lilly flowers , grasses, elephant ears, and a Red Abyssinian Ensete Maurelii.
This really help with the look and remember being in Michigan most of this stuff has to come in for the winter ( alot of work)..

Re: Hello from the lava lounge tiki bar !!!
as a matter of fact it does. I had to place it higher up in the bar and modify the bladed a touch to a custom size but it works well.
In Michigan the fan does two things, cool you when its hot out and if there is any mosquitoes it moves them around so they cant bother as much. So a killer bonfire, fan and a few adult beverages your all set at the lava lounge!!
