Joy Hello from Minnesota

Well here I am, was looking for information on AZ41 on the WEB and came across the lengthy discussion on this forum and thought I would join as lots of other usful info here too. I am familiar with a few folks here and my Super Dwarf Cavindish can use some help. My goal is to be successful in growing both Citrus and my little banana in containers here in Minnesota. Folks think I am crazy for trying, especially since my biggest problem for the most part is the "tree rat" or squirrel. I am determined! Looking forward to learning.

Welcome justjoan, I can assure you that no one here thinks you're crazy. At least no worse off than a lot of us. There are a lot of posts about squirrels her use the search button, it's been a hot topic for a while. I reccomend a pellet gun but that's for you to decide. Any problems with your Super Dwarf Cavendish just ask away.

Welcome! Hope that long AZ41 thread here doesn't scare you away!

I've bought a few large bottles of it from Joe and am trying it out on my chestnut orchard as well as spraying some of my other "hobby plants" with it.

Welcome Joan! Nice to see you here...there's lots of ppl here from the citrus forum as you can see. I didn't know you're growing a nana! Just stay away from the real big ones like Ice Cream LOL.
In Tiki Hut you'll find lots of ppl that hate squirrels as much as we do.
Any questions you have, someone will have a good answer for ya.

Dear Joan,
Youm are welcome to this group. Tell me some thing about this dwarf Cavendish, this may be of use for growers in cyclone prone cultivation areas.

Well I have had this plant for a bit now and due to my novice abilities have not gotten it to fruit yet. I live in Minnesota so that requires bringing the plant indoors for the winter and since I live in a town home space is also an issue. I am enclosing some info. I found from a place I do business with and hope this helps.
Musa acuminata 'Super Dwarf Cavendish'- Forget about huge banana plants that need a lot of room. This unique super dwarf allows for growing inside the home, on the porch, or close confines of a patio. Has a very symmetrical and compact appearance: 2 to 4 feet high. Can produce tasty fruit inside or out. Its Musa Cavendish parentage ensures disease, wind, and cold resistance in the landscape or as a houseplant. Has been used as ground covers around the bases of palms which provide strong vertical elements. Easy to grow in containers down to 8 inches in diameter. Because of its size, our most versatile banana.

Welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy it here! I'm from Iowa but am living in Missouri for grad school right now. You shouldn't have too many problems with bananas in MN. I'd stick to dwarf or super dwarf varieties (there are quite a few good choices) simply because you'll have to bring them inside in the winter. They do really well planted during the summer, so if you want maximum growth and healthy plants, put them in the ground during the seasons you can! ENJOY THE ORG!
