Default Hi from a nana newbie

Hi all. I am now the proud owner of a new musa? banana. I have been gardening for years, herbs, flowers, natives, etc. I have some bonsai but am totally addicted to orchids (I stopped counting after fifty). My screen name, chibae is after one of My favs, Phalaenopsis chibae.
Well, one can't be addicted to orchids without longing for the tropics. So after a little research I decided that a banana (or teo, or three, or, well you get the idea) would go great with the hardy hibiscus and potted Mandevillas.
Since my husband wasn't exactly keen on the idea, I decided that I needed to start small, so last week i brought home tomato seedlings, a few flats of annuals and one banana.
It's labeled musa banana, I know big help. The leaves look like pics I've seen of zebrina. I'll post some once it stops raining here.

Hiya chibae and welcome to the .org! Guess what? I was fortunate to get the Phalaenopsis chibae when it was first discovered and I still have the book on phalaenopsis species written by Chiba. It's been such a long time ago and it is sure nice to be reminded of this plant! Thanks!

You are gonna have fun here with all the friendly 'naner nuts. Hope to hear more from you.

Welcome to the org. I strted out with my first bananas from a cheap-o online nursery about 10 years ago labeled Musa bananas. I'm pretty sure they were zebrina as well. Post some pics when you get a chance and someone should be able to help with an ID.

Welcome to the site! I know you'll love it here. There are lots of great resources and the people are very helpful and knowledgeable. I wish you the best of luck with your nanner...it probably is a zebrina...they're fairly common in greenhouses/nurseries and such. And yeah, they're not always the best at having stuff identified (or identified correctly...I've seen ensete maurelii labeled 'musa banana'). Enjoy the community!

Thanks all, I've already inspired my son and D-in-L, who raise orchids, orange trees and palms in a sunroom to plant some basjoo around their gazebo. Nothing like spreading the madness

Welcome Chibae to the org from another Marylander (Go Terps!). Sounds like you are starting on the road to naner nut like the rest of us. Do post pictures of your orchids, please. I have around 10 so far.
