Default Hi new member

Hi I'm a new member in North East Mesa Az. I have a good sized yard with quite a few species of banana. The ones I can name off the top of my head are Dwarf cavendish, Raja Puri, Ice Cream, Mysore, Cardaba, Goldfinger, Ladyfinger, Saba, Praying hands, Brazillian Plantain, as well as some others that I cant think of right now and some unidentified species. Probably about 30-40 banana plants in all at the moment. Dont know if all will survive the winter, as I can't be bothered to dig them up and bring them in, but we will see I guess. I am always looking for more interesting species especially taller ones that can take some wind. (It's pretty windy in my yard at times.)
Bye for now.

Wow - you are off to a good start! We are in a very windy location and I find the tall Orinoco are stout enough to take wind - the leaves on mine are always in tatters but the plants are solid and the fruit very tasty. Tall red is also good but I can't comment on the fruit as they have not ripened yet.

Thanks,
I have not found any tall orinocos for sale. Any idea where to get some? I prefer a little larger plants if possible. I am not the most patient guy. lol!

Also does anyone know where to get some Musa itinerans var. xishuangbannaensis? Again I would prefer larger ones, but a corm will do.

You could check the threads "Bananas for sale & auction" and contact people who had the plants you want in the past - in case they have more pups spare. I find the tall orinoco pups like mad. Or else contact specialist growers - there must be many more that I don't know about and they will know which states plants can be shipped to.

Thanks, I may try that going bananas place, if they will ship the larger stems. The other two places I have ordered from send corms or very small (about 8 inches and less) plants. I find where I am with the heavy heat that the smaller plants have a rougher time coping.

I am always amazed when a company has a variety of pricing for the varieties that, quite frankly, I know cost exactly the same from the lab.

What two places are those you speak of?

Sometimes they ship corms and are not reselling weak plants from a lab, something to consider.

If you are looking for plants that arrive in great condition, will take off in a spectacular fashion and look magnificent - I cannot praise this site enough both for the quality of the plants and customer service. I haven't ordered from the others.

The places are bananatree.com (good plants but take a while due to the fact that they are usually small corms), and wellspring on ebay (also seem to be good plants but rather small) which he states in the description. both of these places have always sent quality plants. I was just looking for larger. I did get some large ones from an ebayer named angelman, (I think that was his ebay name?...) They were quite large and grew well, unfortunatley he does not know the species of them.
