Hi from South Korea!

I've just found and joined the Forum - after putting my banana to bed yesterday! I put 2 or 3 layers of that insulation material around (see second photo below). Also I mounded some earth at the base of the structure. And I put rice straw around the base of the plant.

Here in the south of S. Korea we get about 3 months of nights at or below zero (seldom worse than minus 5 Celsius). Starting any day now but not yet. Anyway, please look at the photos and tell me what you think:

Do you think I should water it at all before the spring? (I could push a hose in at the base).

welcome! your climate doesnt sound that bad, what is your zone? 9?

Hi Tog Tan! I wish I could grow rambutans and mangosteens here, but......it's too cold in winter!

I've added my location to the map - it goes a few degrees below freezing here for a couple of months in winter max, spring and autumn are beautiful (20-25 deg C) and the summers are hot humid and rainy. Pretty dry the rest of the year, most days we get sun.
They used to grow bananas in greenhouses here, but cheaper imports put a stop to that.

I'm interested in (carefully) getting things to grow here which are not well known. I order seeds / bulbs from the UK and Japan. Actually a lot of the bulbs come from where you are, the Netherlands. I've just put a lot in the ground and am looking forward to seeing them come up in my half-acre field next spring (God-willing!).

Thanks for your messages; actually my litle banana house wasn't that good as i found out when we had our first freeze this week!

The covered leaves promptly blackened, so I've cut them off and wrapped insulation around the banana plant's stalk as well as more rice straw on the ground. I've put the silvery insulation over the lowered "roof" of the house. I feel this winter may be colder than average, so hope this will be OK.
