Looking for an expert in how bananas are grown, harvested, treated and shipped
Hi all - we are looking for the services of someone (or some people) who know how bananas are grown, harvested, treated, shipped - import bananas in particular. Specifically, the ability to tell us what kind of machines are used, processes applied, type of shipping crates, etc. We are evaluating several lines of banana-related technology for investment and need some expert help (for compensation of course).
I hope this post is acceptable - it seemed like a good place to start - if you have any suggestions of a better place to ask, we would love to hear that as well. Thanks contact - at - parobellum.com |

By design (or, in this case, a lack thereof). Parobellum is a private investment vehicle - so there is nothing really to say about it. Atypical in business, typical in the investment bank/hedge world. That being said, our needs are real and so I am hoping we find someone who can help.

Now it just looks like your site is broken and the tech guy quit -- but not before he deleted all his work -- and ain't nobody else around who knows how to get into the server. Seeing the guts laid out isn't "typical in the investment bank/hedge world." The appearance of having vindictive ex-employees or subs is not conducive to attracting further investment. As for your original question. There is a thread that should help you here: A new DVD about growing bananas is available You can get the DVD or simply download the video from the web site and watch it. If you are especially busy I will give you the executive summary: 'Nanners are very low tech. The essential machine used is called "a big knife." Everything else is gravy. If you have money left after buying the knife, consider a chemical sprayer (the 'nanners will thank you) and a truck (Jose will thank you).

Interesting that your company name is derived from a term by a German arms maker... I have a few German 9mmX19 Parabellum hand guns!

Good web site. Debian used to have one just like that 8 years ago. No, in all seriousness, welcome and may you find the expert you are looking for!

Re: Looking for an expert in how bananas are grown, harvested, treated and shipped
I agree with what's been said.
Honey attracts more flies than vinegar. I noticed you have owned your URL since March. That's quite a bit longer than I'd recommend not having any company/investor/investment/contact information, if you are really serious about investing in the magnitude of what's really needed to run a high volume commercial Musa nursery. I've seen some of the best in the US and Mexico for propagation, and I know that maintenance alone can be upward toward 500k. I can only imagine the cost of the actual equipment and supplies.

Re: Looking for an expert in how bananas are grown, harvested, treated and shipped
I think my request was perhaps unclear. We invest in technology - we are not looking to grow. Thanks for all the comments.

I think you misunderstood the answers. The technology is a big knife.

Re: Looking for an expert in how bananas are grown, harvested, treated and shipped
I appreciate the responses - I think my question was out of place here. Just FYI - there is banana technology beyond the knife - treating the water that is used to wash, crates designed for the right amount of airflow, sealed crates with gas mixtures, etc. - shipping bananas from overseas creates issues that are solved by technology.
Thanks and I'll drop it from here. |

Re: Looking for an expert in how bananas are grown, harvested, treated and shipped
Welcome aboard, Parobellum ! With various plagues (including the Panama thing) threatening to virtually wipe out bananas, nearly worldwide within the next 10 years, Technological advance may well be the only solution. Scott Nelson's free DVD, called "Growing Bananas", is in the "Main Banana Discussion" section (first thread in the list). The CD is a very comprehensive overview of the Banana industry in Hawaii. Hope that helps .
This is a (usually) very friendly forum with lots of great & intensive info on just about every aspect of banana cultivation & marketing. If you have any questions about using the forum, just ask! Hope ya have a great time here & learn a lot, I sure have! Good Luck with your ventures! |

Well, looks like I found this thread a little late. I could have helped him with the crating and bagging issue....
