Looking to grow some bananas in San Diego
Hello my name is Chris and I became curious of growing banana plants after seeing them being sold at a local farmers market. I thought It would be great to pick up a plant for my mom, but after seeing a few different types I decided to wait on my purchase until I know what I was buying.
After a day worth of reading, my head is spinning from all the different types there could be. Glad to be living in San Diego where some of the most knowledgeable banana growers sharing the same backyard. Any who, I plan on picking some different types of varieties for my mom from the local growers. As for myself, I'm not sure which one to tackle. Unlike my mom, I live in a condo with a small backyard. Going to have to go with a dwarf and most likely have to stay in a 18 to 25 gallon pot. Though I do like the exotic look of the ice cream.

Ah yes, I happen to come across this site through google search and that thread came up. I joined the forum and have contacted Tony. I'm looking forward to seeing what he has. Though he has quite the collection its hard to make up my mind. I might just go for the Super Dwarf Cavendish for my condo. -Chris

Also, you may have seen our member Richard's ( Plants That Produce) display at the market, as he's in your neck of the woods.
