Not sure about Tn. but in south Alabama yes. My neighbor cuts all the leaves off after the first light frost, then cuts top off and wraps his with plastic. Not the clear but the translucent that painters use. According to him,,the clear can build up to much heat on a warmer Winter day. He has been doing this for year and has a E. Maurelli at least 20ft. tall and my guess is 25 to 30in. in diameter so he must be doing something right. We are in zone 8.
