![]() Hi banana fans,
I am new since today , belgian , living in Puerto Vallarta Mexico since 1985 , basically a rarefruit colector , that's how i met our mutual friend Harvey , he will be to blame if the remaining space in my orchard will soon look like a Banana jungle.Included in the close to 300 rare /exotic fruits i am growing are a few bananas , mostly local like manzana , pear , macho , portalimon , a dark red form , lady finger and some unidentified . The pictures ( 2 ) Harvey posted a few days ago and probabbly the African Red - is this edible ? - is my last acquisition , i was convinced i bought a Musa vellutina ......... Talking about ornamental bananas , do you guys swap seeds ? Going tru the picture gallery i noticed a lucky owner of Mussella lasiocarpa !!!!! This one has been on my "want' list for a while. That's it for now , going south to banana growing country tomorrow , see if i can find something i dont have..... Luc |

![]() Hey Ron , you didn't mention where in Holland , i usually go to Leuven and Antwerpen to visit my daughter.
Gonna start packing for the trip , it's rainy season here , lots of landslides and rain by the bucket so better be prepared. I'll be back with pictures in a few days. Luc |

![]() Hello Luc,
Welcome to the forum and nice to here something from another Belgian too ![]() I’m also pretty new here and started this ‘after’-summer with germination of several Musa/Ensete species. Hopefully I can get something out of it. It’s pretty amazing that you moved to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, very adventurous ![]() In dutch: was dit een werk gerelateerde keuze? Vriendelijke groeten, Yohan |

![]() Hi again after all those years .
I am not really a banana fanatic , my main interest goes to rare tropical fruits , Heliconia and Zingiberales . I am still growing several banana varieties , mostly edible ones . I kinda got a little disappointed in collecting bananas since none of those " special " ones that are mentioned in your posts are available here in Mexico . My last acquisition , and I had to drive 6 hours round trip to get them , is the Praying hands . I am still looking for seeds of Musa lasiocarpa , anybody growing them and has viable seeds ??? OK , here I go again , the collector drive is taking over , any special banana that can be started from seed I WANT IT !!!! BTW what is a fair price for an AE AE pup ? That's it for now , 7:30 pm Tequila time.... Luc |

![]() Hello Luc,
Regarding the price of Ae Ae pups, Oscar on the Big Island has claimed that they sell for as little as $10 there but Ken has said $50 is more realistic. We did have a nursery on the Central California coast selling large pups for $49 a couple of years ago and that was quite a bargain for California standards. While prices in PV should generally be lower than what crazy California folks have been willing to pay, they are probably more rare there so that $49 price might be something to shoot for. If I had a way of sharing with you, I'd be happy to since we go way back, haha. ![]() Harvey |
