Pisang Kates
Hello everyone, I am not used yet of posting to internet group like this. Please excuse this posting. I am searching for a rare cultivar called "Pisang Kates" but I cannot find planting material or even picture in the internet like, webebananas, banana-tree, etc... and even in wiki. Thats why I joined this group. Maybe I can find "Pisang Kates" among the members here. Thanks a lot.

Re: Pisang Kates
I read it from a old news article (2002). The description is like this, The Pisang Kates are papaya-like bananas with solitary fruit per hand.

Re: Pisang Kates
The great wealth of Musa germplasm in Southeast Asia includes some of the
rarest and most unique cultivars of banana in the world. The Pisang Kates of Indonesia bear large, solitary fruits per ‘hand’ and the ‘fingers’ look like small papaya. Kates mean papaya. |

Re: Pisang Kates
Searching the MGIS database (http://195.220.148.3:8013/MGIS_2/Que...Accessions.htm) I found two entries:
Pisang Kates, acquired in 1985 at Philippines BPI site; accession # DAV0218. Musa Kates, at Indonesia SOLOK site, ABB genetics; accession # RIF0144.

Re: Pisang Kates
First off, welcome to bananas.org! I hope you enjoy it here and learn a lot about banana cultivation. The people here are great, so if you have other questions, just ask! I wish you the best of luck in your quest for the Pisang Kates. I've never heard of it. I'm sure if Tog were still around he'd probably know just how to get a hold of one.... Well, keep searching! We'll help in any way we can!
