African red?
Hi all-
I was in Florida this past week, and took a side trip to a big-box store and found a couple of bananas I didn't have. One was marked 'African Red', but after doing some web searching, I see that name being used as synonyms for a plantain, an ornamental flowering banana, and Abyssinian (I'm pretty sure it isn't Abyssinian, it doesn't have red leaves). I'm attaching two photos of the plant here, in the hopes that someone might be able to tell me if it is the plantain vs ornamental. Thanks! |

Re: African red?
Are those wine splotches on it? If so, it could be something like Manzano or a plantain.

Re: African red?
This was sold to me as the ornamental hybrid "African Red". Looks similar, but you really won't be able to tell until it blooms though.
