Any ideas?
I know this guys small he's just come back from the corm this year. Last year I do not recall leaves being variegated like this. Does anyone have an idea of what kind this might be, or what might be causing the variegation? I can take more pics as it grows if this will help.

Re: Any ideas?
Seems a little like Dwarf Red but for any sure and correct ID,photos of the inflorescence and fruits will be needed. Try taking some more photos showing all the details of your plant like leaf underside, pseudostem,a side photo of the whole plant, etc in case it has distinctive characteristics of a certain, well known cultivar

Re: Any ideas?
The color of the underside of the leaves and the reddish-purple midrib and petioles combined with the streaks suggests Mysore to me. I've read that many Mysore clones are infected with banana streak virus, which would explain the streaks on your leaves. I have one that has it, too. Seems otherwise healthy and I get the impression that the virus doesn't do much other than cause streaks. Maybe Gabe or someone else who is more in the know could tell us more about BSV.
Here's more on BSV: Should banana streak virus-infected germplasm be distributed? PS -- Pisang Ceylan is a BSV-free Mysore cultivar, or at least that's my understanding. |
