Re: Dwarf Red, kru or what?
Wow - very red - I have nothing like that! But very nice and I wish I had it. Definitely not dwarf cavendish - lovely plant.

And not a DC.

Re: Dwarf Red, kru or what?
Sbl and I have been trying to hash this out.
I think this tree looks exactly like mine that I thought was iholene red, but everyone seems to think mine is tall red - and I can live with tall red. Apparently kru is sensitive to cold, and slb has noticed that in his. Mine hasn't seen any cold yet, I guess we'll see what happens this winter. Russell |

Re: Dwarf Red, kru or what?
Just in case you can't see, the petiole flares where it meets the pseudostem- if that helps.

Re: Dwarf Red, kru or what?
Well, for that matter, can't we throw Jamaican red into the mix too?
Check out wiki, I'm totally confused. Since we've ruled out iholene red for me, I'll stick with tall red for now (my post is the one before this one). Maybe when one blooms we'll find out for sure! Russell |

Re: Dwarf Red, kru or what?
That looks very similar--the color and the way the petiole fringe flares where it meets the pseudostem.

Re: Dwarf Red, kru or what?
I likewise bought a similar looking banana at a big box hardware store (Home Depot). And eventhough the pot had a tag labeling the plant as Banana - Dwarf Cavendish Musa acuminata I was challenged by the bananas.org "experts" for calling it a Dwarf Cavendish. I've since purchased a Dwarf Red from a Florida grower and must admit my so called DC looks more like the purchased Dwarf Red that all the photos I've seen of DC. Here's another look at my potentially mis-labeled banana.
So my vote now goes for Dwarf Red By the way, a matrix of Banana Cultivars and International Synonyms from the University of Hawaii at Manoa lists Dwarf Red, Dwarf Cuban Red, Dwarf Jamaican Red, Indian Dwarf Red, and Maroon as all being acceptable synonyms for the same banana cultivar. |

Re: Dwarf Red, kru or what?
I know they have been stocking some Dwarf Reds here locally at some of the home repair/garden centers.

Re: Dwarf Red, kru or what?
Not a Kru, My Kru is bi color both red and green and I think it is the best looking one of my heard. My Dwarf Red looks just like yours but is much smaller. The lower parts are a brighter red and the newer top area has the white powdery white stuff on it. I will try to take a pic of my Dwarf red to post, because even the leaf's growth pattern looks the same.
I vote Red Dwarf |
