Re: Found At Work
That's the rare Musa 'Flaming Banana', known in some parts as the 'Burning Bush' Banana Tree.

Re: Found At Work
Yeah I would agree that spirit is really glowing, LOL. I live in N.Cali on an old abandoned nursery farm. 3 weeks ago this banana was about 2 feet tall and now close to 4 feet. Growing dang fast.

Re: Found At Work
If your in Cali there's a good chance it's Musa balbisiana. If the leaves curl in where they meet the petoile then that's a good indicator that its balbisiana.
Check out the close ups of M. thompsonii. It's similar to that for M. balbisiana although not quite as drastic, and gets more obvious as the leaves get bigger. Musa Thompsonii |

Re: Found At Work
With its semi-erect leaves and green pseudo-stem (from what I can see in the pics) and overall general appearance it fits the bill of the dwarf orinoco. I have some D.O. that are about the same size and look exactly like what you have in your pics.... but you probably wont know for sure until flowering/fruiting which is the easiest way to accurately gauge what you have.
here is a really good source of info (not necessarily on D.O. but many species in general).... http://bananas.bioversityinternation...25/54/lang,en/ that is just the musa germplasm publications page... there is a lot more info on the site that you may find useful Regards, -James- |
