Default Gigante blanco

Someone out there knows how to key out Cavendish vs Gros Michel. What is Gigante Blanco. It looks similar to Gros Michel to me.

TARS 17175 - Musa acuminata - Gigante Blanco - Puerto Rico

Anyways, I'm thinking of doing an honest to goodness trial of large fruited bananas to see if I can find one that is worth a crap. I'm trying to get some varieties out of TARS to test. I figure the fact that I work for UF may help.

Looks a lot more like a Gros Michel type to me, based on the coloration of the petioles and the shape of the bud.

My plantlets from TARS are being shipped tomorrow. I'm overjoyed.

TARS lists Gigante Blanco as a Gros Michel type.

TARS also lists Guaran Enano as a Gros Michel type & the data appears to be better.

TARS 17840 - Musa acuminata - Guaran Enano - Puerto Rico

Damn, it didn't make it. It failed to acclimate and died.
