Is this Ice Cream/Blue Java?
I bought this plant from Green Thumb Nursery in Ventura labeled as Ice Cream. Venturabananas was over a few weeks ago and he said that he thought it didn't look like IC but more line a Namwah variety because the fruit were too close together, etc. Since another forum member is interested in buying a pup I thought I should clarify this so that I don't sell him a fraudulent banana
So here are 3 views, Nylon support of the bunch Almost ripe? I wonder if these would be bluer if my soil pH was lower? Thanks in advance, Andy |

Re: Is this Ice Cream/Blue Java?
Don't know what it is - but it is definitely not a Blue Java/Ice Cream. Nice plant and fruit by the way!

Re: Is this Ice Cream/Blue Java?
I am by no means an expert, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Looking at it, reminds me of the Namwah Dwarf, because of the fruit shape and the light color of the stem. I'm sure one of our resident banana experts could ID it though. But, to compare -> Agri-Starts, Inc. - Musa 'Dwarf Namwah Pearl'

Re: Is this Ice Cream/Blue Java?
Thanks for your educated guess. I'm also growing Dwarf Namwah as well so I'll have to make a comparison between the pseudostem color, petiole, midrib, leaf blade, etc.

Re: Is this Ice Cream/Blue Java?
Thanks Tony, it's tempting but I'm currently trying to thin back my banana collection...
It would be nice to know what this is since I have a number of pups... may end up just mulching them and feeding them to the AeAe mats. Andy |

Re: Is this Ice Cream/Blue Java?
My fruit do look similar to yours Tony. Also, found this pick from another site advertising Musa Namwah,
which look pretty similar to mine before they plumped up, Here's a picture of when they first bloomed So until someone tells me otherwise I'm going to call this Musa Namwah. Could be worse, they're quite tasty from what I remember... |

Re: Is this Ice Cream/Blue Java?
No problem. I just remember seeing similar pics, while browsing other sites that sell banana plants and whatnot. I remember thinking they looked like a really nice plant. Yours are very lovely btw, no matter what it is, definately something to be proud of. =)
