Musa acuminata ssp. zebrina question.
All hello! I had a question concerning cultivation of banana Musa Zebrina, earlier I never grew up it. Has put here in what. I have bought seeds of this kind in our shop and have landed. There were shoots and have started to grow actively. But a question here in what, they have no claret stains and look as usual Musa. Signs Musa Zebrina completely are absent. I have thought that suppliers of seeds have mixed seeds and I have bought something another. But has passed a few time and on one plant, on the bottom party of sheet, claret colour has started to appear.
I hope that it Musa Zebrina. These plants really get the colouring after any time? Or they from the very beginning of growth due to be with claret stains and at me not Musa Zebrina? Who had experience with it, answer please.

Re: Musa acuminata ssp. zebrina question.
Hmm, I would have expected some colouration as well in this stage of growth,.....but maybe they need more direct sunlight?
Kind regards, Remko. |

Re: Musa acuminata ssp. zebrina question.
Hi Andrei,
I have done many batches of the germn of this species. They are all very predictable and show their colors early. Here are some pix for your ref. At about 2 mths old, the upper surface of the leaf will start to have faint Maroon blotching. It takes only another week or so for it to be apparent. At 4 mths, all the markings are very distinct. The bottom of the leaf is a beautiful semi gloss Red in color. The mid rib and the p-stem have also turned Red at this stage. Unless you are very lucky to get sds of the M-a-s-sumatrana Var concolor which is all green, then you may have something else on your hand. |

Re: Musa acuminata ssp. zebrina question.
Thanks Tog and Remko! Can it is valid it not enough sunlight, they stand at me under the big plants which create it a shade. Though outwardly they are similar to yours Tog, which 2 months. Pictures very good, on all of them it is well visible, thanks. I will try to put them on the sun and I will look as it will change a situation. I will hope that it all the same zebrina and they will show the colours.

Re: Musa acuminata ssp. zebrina question.
Andrei, I don't think sunlight is an issue here as I have some of mine growing in the deep shade and they red as the ones under the sun.
In fact, I like them better under the shade as the leaves have an overall darker look. It will be nice to see how yours grow. Do keep us updated. |

Re: Musa acuminata ssp. zebrina question.
Clearly Tog, the sunlight means does not influence colouring. It is necessary to wait and observe of their growth only. Time will show.
