Default Other names for banana cultivars in Brazi??

Hi,

I'm looking for Brazilian alias names for Saba, Ice Cream, Thousand Fingers, Praying Hands and African Rhinohorn. Are they perhaps existing in Brazil under alias names in the Portuguese language?? Anyone does know the alias name for Musa "Rio"? Saba is one BBB cultivar, are there also BBB cultivars in Brazil, one BBB cultivar is typically Saba or Cardaba.

Achim from Achim's Bananenshop told me, that there are so many alias names for the same cultivars.

I know the alias name of Brazilian, it is Prata, and also know the alias name of Orinoco, it is Figo and also know the alias name of Red, it is Banana Roxa!

But there are so few Brazilian forum members although Brazil is one of the largest banana growing countries of all the world. Perhaps lorax from Ecuador or Anestor from Florianópolis from Santa Catarina might answer my question about Portuguese alias names in Brazil.

Best wishes
Joachim

A great site for these synonyms is Jon's (pitangadiego's) website ENCANTO FARMS . Some of the cultivar names mentioned there are used in Malaysia, India, and some of them in the Carribean. Those Carribean names should be pretty close to what you might find in your area. There are also other letters, this link will take you just to A and B.

Here is our documentation on translations of names, however Brazil is not listed, but Portugal is, maybe its some help?
Info:Translations - Bananas Wiki
Please everyone add to the list if you have some information, so it becomes more useful in time for future generations of people who need the information.

Yes, this is the problem, that we do have so few Brazilian members here. More Brazilians should join here, also who are working as banana farmers, banana researchers and employees of Embrapa! Also more Africans, Indians and Chineses should join here. Because they grow bananas in their countries outdoors without winter protection! I'm Orkut member, I will try to promote new Brazilian members for here. I don't understand why we do have so few members from the largest banana growing countries such as Brazil and India and also from many tropical banana growing countries in Africa. I see better chances to get more members from Brazil and India because many of the Brazilians and Indians do have internet access.

Also more Columbians and Venezolians should post here.

Best wishes
Joachim

Joachim, would you go to an international forum who's language is not your maternal and discuss strawberries? (something that grows wildly in our climate)?
