Real Blue Java in Oz?
Hi
I bought a blue java tissue culutured plant last year here in Australia Queensland and has recently bloomed. I dont really see the blue tinge on the bananas that is often a trait of a real blue java. Can anyone please tell me if this is a real blue java or not. Here are some pics of the bud and fruit let me know if it would be any help having some pics of the plant or its pups. The bud when it first started opening The small flowers on the end of each banana The bell now about 11 weeks from bud emerging the top of the plant. The bananas about 11 weeks old here. They are inside a commercial banana bag this might be why I dont see the blue. Last edited by sloot95 : 07-30-2013 at 09:32 AM. |

Re: Real Blue Java in Oz?
Can you also post some pictures of the entire plant and mat, p-stem,
petiole? Is there any pink or red on the p-stem, leave petiole? I do have the "real deal" Blue Java fruiting right now and the plant looks different than the one I bought at Lowes mis-labeled Blue Java. The mis-labeled one has lots of pink and red in the pseudo-stem, a reddish petiole and most of the leaves are reddish outlined. My Real Blue Java does not have any of that or just a tiny bit on the pups, but that disappears as they get bigger. |

Re: Real Blue Java in Oz?
It is way to early for the fruit to be blue.

Re: Real Blue Java in Oz?
Keep us updated, as I got one from the same source. Mine is still not that big but it is different to the dwarf Ducasse (dwarf Namwa) which I got from them as well.

Re: Real Blue Java in Oz?
I agree, between the leaning and the yellow-green color, it looks more like the real thing than a namwah.

Re: Real Blue Java in Oz?
Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it was a real once since the banana varieties here are restricted to a small list and where I bought it from is the only place in the state where I live allowed to distribute them.
Brod I bought it 24/11/12 the bud emerged around 10/5/13 (a week before my first baby boy was borne ). I bought it from a guy reselling them at a market. I suspect he had it for a few months before I bought it. Compared to a TC i ordered directly from tully (pisang ceylon which is also flowering) it was twice as big, in a bigger pot and had a decent amount of roots. Here is a pic of it nov last year. Closest plant with the fresh sugar cane mulch around it. Last edited by sloot95 : 07-31-2013 at 06:18 PM. |

Re: Real Blue Java in Oz?
Hi
One more question regarding the real blue java. In my first picture you can see purpol at the base or neck of each banana. In my 4th picture it's fully green. I have read that the purpol is a clue it's a namwah but as you can see it started purpol then went green. |
