Re: Unknown banana
I've seen it before I think - with the pink female flowers just like that. I'll have a think and try to remember where I saw them.

Re: Unknown banana
The top petals are not quite the same - or is it because one is an older flower?
I am sure I have seen one completely identical to the first one posted, but it was not on this forum. I only saw it a few days ago and just can't think where.

Re: Unknown banana
They look a lot alike to me, but I've never really had to compare anything like this. So we go with Orinoco? Will they have time here to ripen?(zone 6) Is there anything I need to do now? From the wiki I understand they are edible. I also seen dwarf Orinoco. ( I'd really like to get my hands on one of them.......Anyone?)
Thanks Bob |

Re: Unknown banana
Now remember this tree was overwintered bareroot and the 5 leaves it has are the only leaves to show up this year before the flower. So I'm sure it doesn't look great but I'm still amazed to see this happen.
I've seen on this site the diagram of a banana tree. My question is will each bract reveal more bananas? The diagram show the male flower as half the bracts unopen. Does that mean they don't open and that is the male flower or is the male flower inside those bracts and also more bananas. Can you tell I'm very new to all this? [IMG][/IMG] |

Re: Unknown banana
I know I said I was excited to see my tree flower, but I feel a little dissapointed now that I've seen my fourth and fifth bract open only to reveal even smaller bananas. My only hope is that there is a dwarf something out there that I could overwinter in my house. NOW I WANT REAL FRUIT!
I still love to grow bananas, I just had a taste of what COULD happen! |

Re: Unknown banana
They could be male now but if they look like the flowers on the first ones they're still female.
Those small ones will probably end up falling off, or at least the second set on down of them.
