What banana is this? Is it edible?
I bought this banana tree at Home Depot a long time ago and don't know what it is. Can anyone identify it?

Re: What banana is this? Is it edible?
It is 'Orinoco', and yes it is edible. It is very common and if you do some searching on this site you will find lots of information about it.

Re: What banana is this? Is it edible?
Adrian - you cut it down much too soon - the fingers need to plump up and you need to wait til the first one starts to turn yellow if you want to eat them fresh. Then wait til the skin is yellow/orange depending on the plant, and the fruit is starting to go soft. If you want to use them as cooking bananas, you still need to wait until they are plump and the hard edges have gone - bunches take 4-7 months to ripen depending on your area.

Can you bag them if its cold? It got down to 30 out here so I figured I should cut them down.
