Thanks for Sharing!
I can't wait till my Ice cream banana gets big enough to fruit! I so want to share it with my Mother who told once me about these bananas she ate as a kid that tasted just like vanilla Ice cream! She's from Okinawa. I was So excited to actually Find this Banana tree and I'm hoping it will be as she remembered. |

Re: Banana Fruit
Those make my mouth water. I eat a banana every day and just can't get used to their rather dull taste. Store bought of course, so when we start getting a crop we will be very very happy. Thanks Tony they look delicious.

Re: Banana Fruit
Tony (Sunfish),
Nice bunches! How tall do your mysore grow? And it looks like the mature leaves loose their pink underleaf? My young plants are very pink, but also fade to a waxy green color as they get bigger. |

Re: Banana Fruit
We got an Ice Cream from wellsprings and it looked healthy when we got it. It soon started fading and then just sat there. Put it in more sunlight and up shoots a pup from the 12" stem. We were feeling happy until we notice that it fell over. I stakerd it up in hopes that it would help the pup and it came back strong with two new leaves in 5 days. Both the pup and mother are doing good now. Hope i didn't speak too soon.

If you stick with container, you will have to feed and water so often you'll find yourself needing medication for the insanity of it, plus, you may not ever see fruit! If you can plant it in the ground, find an area of just 4ft x 4ft, thats it! They like shade but don't over do it or the leaves will droop. Let one plant mature and allow two suckers at the base. Don't worry about thinning, but do separate ones less than 12in close together or they will lean away from each other like palms and then you'll need to support them when the fruit comes. It's tedious and agrivating. If you have to water manually, just put the hose on the base and let it fast-trickle for an hour or so every three days. If you have sprinklers, don't water it at all. Good luck! |
