Ae Ae survived 23F
As I thought it would, my Ae Ae that i removed from the greenhouse and planted in the yard handily survived the low 20's by haveing a large pile of leaves around the base as mulch, and being wrapped in a couple blankets and frost cloth. Now sporting 2 new leaves!

Having a thread about Ae Ae in the Cold Hardy Bananas forum just somehow doesn't seem right, LOL!!
 I think any banana known could survive a night of 23F with the right amount of protection. That does not qualify it in any way as remotely cold-hardy though. Glad yours survived! |

Maybe not, big dog, but it does let you know that you can grow it in places where it occasionally gets to the low 20's. Many people don't think you can

My experience is the same as Lilith. I've grown Ae Ae outside for 4 years. Had Hurricane Ritas not destroyed one mat, I would have seen blooms. This past winter, our low was 24 followed by successive nights of 25 and 26. I wraped a blanket around mine. I've done this each year for the last 4 years and each spring, they have continued to grow.

Wow, I was thinking that this banana can't handle frost! I like this banana very much, but i don't have them in my collection. Do you people think he can grow here in the Netherlands?
