Default Cicadas, should I be worried?

They are supposed to be bad by me. They are says that my county might be the worst in the state. Anyone with any experience with them?

Default Re: Cicadas, should I be worried?

Experience I have with them was on young trees in the late 80s/early 90s in the DC area. They ate all grafts out of my fruit cocktail tree and chewed off the leader of my son's birth tree (Maple). I was very ticked because the extension service, city arborist and news providers said they'd do no damage; apparently they were very wrong. If I had known they destroy young trees, I'd have purchased netting at the fabric store and covered them. Notice that current warnings include protecting young trees...

Haven't a clue if they'll bother bananas....
