Cutting Pseudostem
Hey guys and gals. My bananas are outgrowing the temporary greenhouse. Can I cut off two feet of pseudostem and start anew at a lower height? I just want the thing to look good and fruit down the road.

Re: Cutting Pseudostem
I should add, if the paddle leaf or flag leaf have arrived, obviously, don't do it.
And if you think the plant may be NEAR blooming, look closely at the most recent leaf. If the most recent leaf to unfurl is slightly smaller than the previous, that's indicating its near blooming. If you cut it a few feet shorter, you might cut the inflorescence away, and you will not be a happy camper when your plant dies and you get no bananas.

Re: Cutting Pseudostem
Also if I am not mistaken cutting the Pstem makes lesser bunches since you are cutting their food intake away. Can you just open the canopy you said it's temporary greenhouse.

Re: Cutting Pseudostem
Too late. Already cut the top foot, or so, off on 2 of 3. I need the greenhouse because I'm still getting frosts. I have too many fun plants in there to take a risk. Since cutting them 4 hours ago, they've already grown an inch each.
