Re: did not cover my bananas
So is it only the plant above ground that rotted? As long as temps never went below what Basjoos are hardy to, you're fine. The corm below the ground is fine and will sprout up new plants once the last frost ends, and temperatures are warm enough for them to decide to emerge. For me, it's May.
Oh yeah, and welcome! |

Re: did not cover my bananas
Lived in Ohio in zone 4 and my Basjoo would come right back,I cut them down like to several inches from the ground. Forget when mine used to come back.

Re: did not cover my bananas
When your soil temperature gets well above 50F, they should start pushing up from the ground. Wait another week, and you should see something emerge since we are supposed to be on a warmup.

Re: did not cover my bananas
I live just a couple of hours to the northeast from you and I didn't protect this year or last on the older ones. They come back. No growth this year YET, but the winter cold wasn't extreme (albeit long). So they should be fine below the ground.
