![]() Wow I thought it was a goner!! I have a 2 inch sprout and a couple of others on their way from my mushy corm! Those that told me to relax, they will come back, thanks!! I didn't, but now I know better and will prepare better before next winter.
So now how can I get these little guys growing?! I bought a couple of other musas now about 3' in small pots and thought I would be replacing that mushy corm, apparently not!! I will find a new place for these ones but I really need some growth one these little ones, any suggestions, or is it again, patience!? Thanks |

![]() Once they start leafing out you can start fertilizing them, and making sure they have enough water. I usually wait until they're about 2 ft. tall first.

![]() Hello Bananabeginner!
Congratulations, that's great!! I hope I have the same luck with mine. I'm from the Greater Vancouver Area and planted my first Musa Basjoo last summer too. I bought a 'jacket' from the nursery for winter protection and it still flopped. Crazy winter this was! See my picture below...I still haven't seen any signs of life, but I haven't given up. Now that I read your post I have more hope! lol Heidi

![]() Yes, it was a crappy winter!! Mine looked the same but I put a flower pot upside down over it for a month or so, kind of like a greenhouse effect, and it appears to have worked. Maybe give it a try. Mine are offshoots from the wet mushy corm. I now have 3!
Good luck! |

![]() Yes we've also had warms days and cool nights. Turns out my Basjoo was a goner. We've had problems with moles and the tunnels they've made throughout my yard went right under my banana. I poked my finger down to test for any 'life' and there was a huge pocket of air. the soil caved in and I could see the holes the moles made. ugh! lucky my cat has caught 5 already. I'll be replacing my baby soon... and did I ever baby it....*sniff sniff*...if anything I thought I'd lose it to the winter, not a mole!

![]() Thanks Gino! I am really happy now, I have 5 little ones!! I think covering it up with the flower pot really helped when the temperatures were still low.
Hilashes, Sorry to here about your mole problem. I have had lots of dirt mounds but they stayed away from my banana plants so far. I have "raised trails" in my grass by my dwarf birch tree. Little buggers! I put some pictures in of my new babies. Hope you get that mole!!! |
