![]() I planted out my musa basjoo about 5 weeks ago and it looks like I am getting pups already! I have 4 pups growing up underneath the stem. Is this typical? I expected to get pups maybe next year.

![]() I pulled 3 or 4 pups off the one I planted last year. I just bought 4 noids about a foot tall and they all have pups-one has 4. I've already pulled a pup off my basjoo that I overwintered in the ground and its already about 3'. It was actually taller that the mother plant but now the mother plant has taken off and is about 4 '.

![]() Basjoo's pup like crazy! Chop em off and spread them around the yard or to friends. I prefer to grow mine in a big clump so I leave most of them on. The mat will also spread that way and will come back stronger in spring.

![]() A large root mass and subsequent grouping will survive a much colder winter unprotected, than one that has regularly had it's off-sets removed.

![]() I tried digging one up that was about 1 1/2 feet tall, but it didn't have any roots on it! I just stuck it in the ground to see what happens! At what point (size) do the pups develop their own roots?
