musa basjoo in oregon zone 7-8

I have a musa basjoo that is not doing the best indoors (lack of nice sunny window). So is it possible for it to grow outside? And if so how much room would it need. I new to this so any thoughts would be helpful. Thankyou for looking.

basjoo can grow very well outside, also in your zone.
but, if you dont want to lose the pseudostems you have to protect it in winter.
in summer, give it lots of water and fertilization.

I'm north of you in SW Washington and I don't cover my Basjoos and they've been fine for two years in a row now.

I live in Kelso, WA 48 miles north of Portland and I have Basjoos outside the mat of 10 adult ones and five pups is probably six to eight feet around if I drew a circle around them. I didn't do anything to them for the last couple of years over the winter and they did just fine.
If your plant isn't that big when winter comes my aunt and uncle both have them and they wrapped them in bubble wrap to over winter them. So you could have everyone save their bubble wrap over the summer.

Like previously said, the reason Basjoos are so popular and common is because even in zone 7 and 8, you can leave them completely alone during the winter and they'll still pop up new shoots in the spring. If you want your plants to get taller or flower though, best to leave them in the ground not indoors in pots, and cover them with some form of insulation so that the stem doesn't freeze, thus the next year the stem continues growing instead of dying back to the ground.

I'd love to be in your zone--we're in zone 5. We plant ours here and they come back, we just plant them a foot deeper than they normally grow. You wouldn't have to do that there.
Put it outdoors in a shady place for at least a week or two before planting outside if it's been growing in the house, or all the leaves on it will sunburn real bad.

What part of oregon i am in florence and do well out doors but i ave friends who are too close to the beach that got some pups and just too foggy for them . If you need any help call me 541 902 2858 i have 5 types and looking for more trade pups ? also looking for pups ,
