what was the cold hardiest.....?
Hello Californian friends!
While that was a kind of tragedy to my friends in California, I am very much interested in the fact or your opinion which banana showed the strongest tolerance against the arctic temperatures except Sikkimensis,Velutina and Chinese Yellow which are commonly known as very very coldhardy. I especially want to know about Calif. Gold, Dwarf Orinoco, Dwarf Brazilian and others if you desire to add. Thanking you in advance. Stan |

Re: what was the cold hardiest.....?
My Basjoo, ice cream, raja puri, praying hands, Dwarf Brazilian all did well. Just leaf damage. Took 2 weeks after the last freezing temps(32F) to start new growth. I lost 2 small ice creams(under 2 feet) and 1 praying hands(also under 2 feet) All my Ensete's did well, just leaf damage. All growing again.

Re: what was the cold hardiest.....?
My Sweetheart faired the best. Orinoco, Dwarf Cavendish, 1000 Fingers are all bouncing back. Funny to see a green leaf with the end totally fried. We are supposed to have a warm up, so I'm anxious to see how the rest of mine do. I know my three small Mahoi's are toast.

Re: what was the cold hardiest.....?
I totally forgot to mention! My Monthan that I got from Pitandiego in June, is the real winner! It has some frost damage, but the leaves stayed greener than anyone else's.
And my CA Gold is burned. But, one of two pups are smiling. Spring please come early!!! |

Re: what was the cold hardiest.....?
Groundhog news:
Phil Says Spring is Right Around the Corner! Phil's official forecast as read 2/2/07 at 7:28 a.m. at Gobbler's Knob: El Nino has caused high winds, heavy snow, ice and freezing temperatures in the west. Here in the East with much mild winter weather we have been blessed. Global warming has caused a great debate. This mild winter makes it seem just great. On this Groundhog Day we think of one thing. Will we have winter or will we have spring? On Gobbler's Knob I see no shadow today. I predict that early spring is on the way. OHHHH!!!! Please! Let it BE SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) GO PHIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
