Winter has arrived.
On Sunday, Nov. 28, I noticed that the leaves on my outdoor Basjoos were melting/turning bronze. This is the latest that I can remember. The official first frost date, for this area, is Oct. 20, but that's old. In recent years we haven't gotten it until around election day but, this year, we beat even that by 3 to 4 weeks. Let's hope it's a sign of what the rest of the winter will be like.

Re: Winter has arrived.
My Basjoos have been hit awhile ago with low temps. First light covering of snow a few days ago.

Re: Winter has arrived.
We also got a frost then. Some of my plants werent hit by the frost and are continuing to grow. Im sure that will end this weekend because it is going to get very cold (like January!) this weekend. High temps only in the low 40s and low temps in the upper 20s. That would be just about average during some of the coldest times of the year and its only the first week in december. There's even a chance for snow showers in the forecast, but that isnt that unusual for (what would be by then) almost mid december.

Re: Winter has arrived.
Sorry to break it to you, but it's going to be a long winter. We got our first freezes (27,27,28F) just the past week or so. Usually don't get freezes like this well into December and this many! The next 15 days are frost free, but I'm worried what is to come still

Re: Winter has arrived.
Cold here in Phoenix AZ too, it was about 30 degrees for 2 nights this week, my Ice Cream leaves are all brown on the upper leaves, I put a fan and XMAS lights on them and the smaller lower to the ground plants and leaves seem ok. Glad its back up to 70's in the daytime and 40's at night...Hope thats the last of the cold this winter. I still yet have a plant to fruit, Either it gets too cold in winter for a few days or too hot in summer and my oldest plant dies.

Re: Winter has arrived.
We had snow and sleet here on Thanksgiving though it wasn't all that cold and didn't stick. Frosts came later this year here too John but it still amazes me that we're so close and you get 2 extra frost free weeks and at least 5 or so degrees warmer every year during winter.
