A few months ago, I hacked one of my ensete maurelii plants to the ground. It is now loaded with pups and time to come inside for the winter. Should I try to separate the pups now? Should I quarter the corm? Should I pot up the intact corm and let it grow out more before attemting to separate the pups?

Now is not the best season to be separating and re-potting tropical plants. I'm going to assume you do not live in zones 9 or above? and you will be storing them or growing them on inside til spring? IF you plan to store in the garage or basement with cooler temps and little light, then I would pot it up in some peat moss, water it a little, then let it go as dormant as possible until the spring. If you want, you could separate the larger suckers that you can see are actually producing some nice white roots into their own pots and then keep those in the house near a window until spring. Just don't over water them during the winter and watch out for spider mites. If you decide to take this route, be sure to pot them up into a professional potting MIX with plenty of perlite for good drainage. DO NOT use regular garden dirt or top soil as it tends to cake up and harden like cement. The remainder of the corm could be kept as is until spring and you could harvest whats there and separate them and plant individually at that time. I definitely would NOT be cutting the corm up into pieces at this time of year.

Thanks. I am in zone 7. I will pot up the whole corm into potting mix/perlite and overwinter under HID lights. I will separate the pups in the spring.
