I guess this was a reply to my post. Yes I have pictures, I'll upload them soon.

I'm aware of that, I wanted to grow acuminata (the species) too. Another thing to mention is that many (most?) species don't produce any fruit at all unless you have two or more plants flowering a suitable time from eachother.

Well...how about that. A seed dealer misrepresenting their product. Never heard of such a thing, lol! To be fair, banana-tree.com is actually one of the better seed dealers, and definitely one of the cheapest. Glad you broke the news on this one though. I wanted to try that one, because Kyle said it was pretty cold-hardy. It is definitely M. velutina. They also offer plants of "Musa itinerans var. gigantea," (now known as Musa itinerans var. xishuangbannaensis)...but it is not what they are actually selling. The plant that they describe is the same one that Agri-starts sells, and I believe it to be Musa yunnanensis.

Anyhow, I digress. Thanks for the heads-up!

I think I also have the veluntia from the same seed source(M.acuminata bntree). The leafs look similar from what I can see.
Weird how "some" of my veluntias from seed were more hardy than TC. Maybe one mild winter hardens them up for the next colder year?

Anyone fancy trying this again?

Ensete Perrieri seeds (20) for 4.99 euros

: leroi du palmier

I've just bought some. I kinda figured the supplier is french, Madagascar speaks french, (although it was a portuguese colony wasn't it?)
we'll see.

I only know one person who's actually germinated one

Default Re: reliable Seed Sources

This year I ordered 130 seeds of 8 species of musa by S E M E N T E S** Margrit Reiner

Only 2 seeds germinated.

I ordered at the same time by europalms with good success.

In an answer to my complaint Margrit Reiner from sementes I got the mention that I have done something wrong. Both the seeds from europalms and sementes were treated the same way.

My conclusion : no service by sementes, no refunds or replacement of seeds

don't buy

If anybody have good success this year give me your seed source and results.

Thanks

I just noticed that seedman.com has a wholesale division named NextHarvest.com They are advertising Monkey Finger seeds. I thought these weren't propagated by seed. Will someone please clarify this?

I've been buying my seeds from this guy Tropical Seeds; Exotic Seeds, Vegetable seed & Tropical Plants Mail Order, they are a good price (well actually I don't know what a good price is, but...) they have been very reliable seeds so far and he has a good selection, and you can pay by paypal.

Jmoore,
I dont know peter personally at jungle seeds but i have talked to him via email on one or two occasions and he is always very helpful, he has a passion for banana plants himself and does'nt stock old seed, he may be a little more expensive than some but he provides good service and quality seeds

Kev, I have about 25 seeds left. Still have about 25 of them in various germination trials. In fact, I planted about 15 last night following a two week soak. Have them on alternating temps. Also trying some other methods. Will soon try embryo rescue on some of them. The Ingens are also in various media, so we will see. I have some in banana peel in coco peat/perlite mix, following a 2 week soak; others in Jiffy mix, and a few that will be put into embryo rescue soon. (They are still soaking in water now, but were in kelp solution for the first 3 days.)
